When is the Spring Season??
MOTYLC is a part of the Delaware Youth Lacrosse Association (DYLA). DYLA teams are located in Delaware (Brandywine, Newark, Smyrna and Milford). Our season runs from the first weekend in March through May. The season typically concludes with a round robin tournament. League games are played on Sunday afternoons, start times range from 1:00 to 4:00. Home games are played at the MOT Football Complex. Away games require travel.
What is a Recreational League?
The focus of recreational lacrosse, at all age levels, is to help new players learn the game and begin to develop basic skills as well as to help experienced players continue to develop their skills in preparation of moving to the next level. There is a strong emphasis at all levels on skill development, sportsmanship and having fun. Most importantly it means that all players play.
Where and when do we practice?
Practices will be held at the MOT Football complex. The first practice will be the first Sunday in March from 1-3. When DST begin we will have practice on Sun and then begin our regular practice schedule Mon/Wed 6-7:30 for the remainder of the season.
What equipment does my player need to play?
All boys players are required to have the following equipment for all age groups: stick, lacrosse helmet with NOCSAE approval seal or statement, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, protective cup and cleats (molded rubber). The club will provide equipment for goalies to use during the season.
Follow this link to the US Lacrosse Equipment Fitting Guide: https://www.uslacrosse.org/sites/default/files/public/documents/safety/us-lacrosse-equipment-fit-guide.pdf. This is useful for new first time players and parents with suggestions for purchasing equipment.
Long defense poles are permitted at the 12U and 14U grade boys levels to begin to develop stick skills at these positions. However, the stick must be cut down in order for the player to use it with control. A good rule of thumb is that the stick should not be longer than than the player is tall. Coaches will be able to provide more guidance. Long poles are not permitted in short sided games.
What is US Lacrosse and why does my player need to have an active membership to play?
US Lacrosse is the national governing body of lacrosse. All MOTYLC players and coaches are required to be a member of US Lacrosse and their membership must be current for the duration of the season in order for the club to have comprehensive insurance coverage. Parents are not required to be members of USL unless they are a coach. (If you are coaching the club will pay your fee).
What are the rules?
US Lacrosse has published videos of age specific interpretation of the youth rules here: https://www.uslacrosse.org/rules/boys-rules?utm_source=LA_navigation.
You can download a copy of the 2018 Youth Rulebook here: https://www.uslacrosse.org/sites/default/files/public/documents/rules/2018-Boys-Youth-Rulebook.pdf.
I'm interested in coaching, how do I get involved?
Getting involved coaching is a great way to share the lacrosse experience with your kids. If you have experience as a player, a coach or if you don't and just want to get involved contact Chris Hainsworth 302 740-1191.
I want to get involved, but not as a coach, how can I help?
In order to have a successful experience for the kids, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. We need help with marking fields, preparing field equipment, uniforms and probably a few things that I can't think of right now. Just reach out to any of the Board Members and let us know that you would like to help.
